This book is about a young man called Mitai who lives with his handsome seven brothers in the village of Maketu. Mitai watched his brothers become fold by seven beautiful woman. The brothers were under their spell and the brothers no longer feed themselves, looked after themselves, work in their garden or hunt. Mitai realized that the woman were patupaiarehe, fairy woman, he knows that they must be cast far away from the brothers. He traps them in a magic net and Mitai turns into a bird and flies up to Urutengangan the god of the stars. Urutengangan turns them into stars and yet once a year at winter he allows the beauty to shine in the eastern sky. It's called the maori new years.
